SafeDT at BDTIC 2026: Exploring the Future of Digital Twins in the Built Environment
28-05-2026
As part of the SafeDT research project and within the scope of the corresponding 2025 CoSeC Fellowship, Dr Alejandro Jiménez Rios attended the 6th Building Digital Twin International Congress (BDTIC 2026) in Brussels, Belgium.
The conference brought together researchers, industry leaders, technology developers, and policymakers working at the forefront of digital twin innovation. The event provided valuable insights into emerging applications of digital twins across the built environment, including lifecycle asset management, decision-support systems for sustainable buildings and neighbourhoods, and digital twins for underground utility infrastructure.
Attendance at BDTIC 2026 offered an excellent opportunity to engage with the international digital twin community, identify current challenges and opportunities, and gather perspectives that will help inform the upcoming SafeDT Idea Factory Event and the development of recommendations for the safe and responsible deployment of digital twins.
The knowledge gained and connections established at BDTIC 2026 will directly contribute to the SafeDT project's mission of supporting safer, more resilient, and trustworthy digital twin technologies for the built environment.
Registration to Participate at the SafeDT Idea Factory Event now open!
20-05-2026
Researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and anyone interested in the future of the built environment are invited to participate in the SafeDT Idea Factory Event.
This event, part of the SafeDT project, will explore the risks, challenges, and opportunities associated with the adoption of digital twins across the conservation, construction, and infrastructure sectors. Participants will identify priorities and co-develop recommendations for the safe and responsible deployment of digital twins. The insights gathered during the event will directly inform a Policy Brief aimed at shaping future research and policy directions in the UK. All participants will also be invited to contribute as co-authors.

SafeDT Presented at the 2025 CoSeC and CIUK Conferences
06-12-2025
In December 2025, Dr Alejandro Jiménez Rios attended both the 2025 CoSeC Conference and the 2025 CIUK Conference in Manchester, UK, as part of his CoSeC Fellowship.
These events provided an excellent opportunity to engage with the UK's computational science community, explore emerging advances in cybersecurity, HPC, and software sustainability, and discuss the SafeDT project's focus on the safe and responsible deployment of digital twins for the built environment.
Insights gained during the conferences will directly inform ongoing SafeDT activities and future collaborations with CoSeC and STFC UKRI partners. Further updates will be shared as the project progresses.
The SafeDT Project Has Officially Started!
01-10-2025
Dr Alejandro Jiménez Rios has been awarded a 2025 CoSeC Fellowship to support the SafeDT project: Safe Digital Twins for the Built Environment.
The project officially began on 1 October 2025 and will run until 31 December 2026. Through this Fellowship, SafeDT will advance the development of secure, resilient, and trustworthy digital twins for heritage and modern infrastructure, working in close collaboration with experts across the CoSeC and STFC communities.
Further updates, including details of upcoming events and project outputs, will be shared on this website throughout the Fellowship period.
